April marks Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month, which is perhaps the most important month for KidsFirst to raise awareness for their lifesaving, no-cost programs and services. The nonprofit hosted several notable events including the 20th Annual Putting Kids First Awards Luncheon and a CAP forum featuring our region's leading advocates for children and families. Throughout April, KidsFirst has challenged the Placer County community to plant pinwheel (the national symbol of child abuse awareness) gardens, wear blue (its national color) and attend their events in support of child abuse prevention.
Our team secured media coverage to help KidsFirst raise awareness of their CAP Month efforts. Media opportunities included a pinwheel planting segment with ABC 10's Mark S. Allen, a KCRA Common Ground feature, two articles in Gold Country Media and a segment on iHeartRADIO's 'That PSA Show'. Our efforts led to a surge in CAP luncheon ticket sales and an increased demand for pinwheels. It is an honor working alongside KidsFirst to promote the importance of strong, healthy children and families.
