Before Sierra College's spring semester began, the Elevate team wanted to do something special for students participating in Sierra College Foundation's Guardian Scholars Program, which is made up of former foster youth. We know how hard it is to pursue a higher education, but with little to no emotional or financial support, this feat may seem impossible. To show our recognition and support of the hardworking students in the program, we prepared 200 "Warm Winter Wishes" bags.
Goody bags included items like socks, instant soups, hot cocoa, food gift cards and free printing. Special thanks to Jersey Mike's Subs, The UPS Store, Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce, El Sombrero Taqueria, KoJa Kitchen, Chick-fil-A and Mooyah for generously donating items for the bags. In addition to our Rocklin business partners, we are extremely grateful for the socks personally contributed by the Elevate community.
Based on the responses we've received thus far, we know the goody bags were a welcomed and much appreciated surprise to start the semester.
"For students who have grown up with little support, this kind gesture made all the difference. We are grateful to all the amazing people at Elevate and the many generous community businesses that helped make these bags a reality." -Sonbol Aliabadi, Executive Director, Sierra College Foundation
